Even though taxis are expensive in Orlando it is quite possible to have little need for a car to get yourself about. If you are staying within Disney at a Disney hotel, or purchase a multiday passport to the Disney parks, all transportation around the four Disney parks is free. Most hotels outside Disney World offer either free or reasonably priced shuttles to all the Orlando theme parks.

by car
Getting around Orlando by car is a fairly easy process. Theme Parks are easy to find and roads are reasonable to navigate. At peak times you will hit traffic in the area, but if you are using shuttles these will be hitting the same traffic. Parking at the theme parks costs around $6 per day and it can be advisable to use Disney transportation to move around Disney parks, leaving your car in the first theme park you came to.

If you do not arrive by car there are plenty of car rental options. Car Rental companies in Orlando include: Alamo (U.S. tel. 800/327-9633; U.K. 020/8759-6200), Avis (U.S. tel. 800/331-1212), Budget (U.S. tel. 800/527-0700; U.K. 0800/181181), Dollar (U.S. tel. 800/800-4000; U.K. 020/8897-0811), Hertz (U.S. tel. 800/654-3131; U.K. 020/8897-2027), and National InterRent (U.S. tel. 800/227-7368; U.K. 0345/222525).

Orlando offers low rental-car rates starting at around $28 a day and $136 a week for an economy car with unlimited mileage. Tax is an additional 6%. You need to be at least 21 to rent a car and rates are higher if you are under 25. Extras include child seats (about $3 per day) and for additional drivers (about $2 per day). If you are not a U.S. citizen you need a passport, a driver's license, and a travel policy that covers each driver to rent a car.

All of the theme parks have huge parking lots. The Magic Kingdom lot hold over 12,000 vehicles making it the second largest lot in the world. Trams make frequent trips between the parking area and the theme park entrances. Save your receipt if you want to visit another Disney park on the same day do you do not have to pay twice.

shuttles
Most hotels run their own shuttles to the theme parks. Some offer this service for free and others charge around $5 per person each way. If you are not going to rent a car then the hotel policy for park shuttles is something to use in picking a hotel. A free shuttle service to all the theme parks is a great perk.

disney transportation
Disney World has its own transportation system that connects all the Disney parks. All Disney transportation is free if you buy a multiday passport or stay in a Disney hotel. Disney have a Monorail, boats, trams and lots of buses. They all operate from early morning until after the parks close.

taxis
Taxi fares in Orlando start at $2.45 and cost $1.40 for each mile thereafter unless a set fee is available. To get from Magic Kingdom to International Drive, (where Sea World and Universal are), costs around $20.
