I agree with the other posters that the Contemporary is underrated. It is my favorite hotel at WDW for the sheer convenience afforded by the monorail, which runs directly through the hotel and has its station right inside the main concourse. Likewise, the various shops and restaurants are mostly located in the concourse. As long as one stays in a "tower room" (i.e., not in one of the wings of the hotel), this facility is tops for sheer efficiency and an almost hassle-free vacation. I've been a guest at the other WDW monorail hotels (Polynesian & Grand Floridian) and I rate the Contemporary as "best choice".

I agree with Michael, I think the Contemporary gets a bum rap, for all the reasons he mentioned. We stayed there a couple of years ago, in one of the garden wings, and we were very pleased. We loved having access to the monorail, and really weren't bothered by whatever time it took to get from the Contemporary to MK. It might have been 20 minutes, but I doubt it. You can easily walk, too, but personally I do enough walking w/o adding that little jaunt! The rooms are very spacious, the decor is colorful and fun, and thebathrooms are very nice. Heck, even the arcade is deluxe and fun. Sure, the Polynesian or the Grand Floridian are luxuriously themed, but for us, just being on the monorail made a difference for us (we love Magic Kingdom and Epcot, and could get to them w/o hardly thinking!). :-)

Just my opinion, but I think the Contemporary gets a bum rap. The problem as I see it is the theming -- it used to fit with the Tomorrowland scheme, but WDW soon realized that anything built with a futuristic slant tends to become outdated very quickly. That being said, I like the Contemporary...call me sentimental, but it is the first on-site resort I stayed at. The hotel monorail's first stop is the Contemporary but frankly, in good weather, it is only a 5 minute walk to the MK, so I wouldn't even bother unless some family members just HAVE to ride.

I've always had a wonderful vacation experience at this hotel. Great staff, great convenience (the monorail practically right at your doorstep if you stay in a tower room), and great atmosphere (the Grand Concourse area is always a delight). Proximity to the Magic Kingdom is a real plus too. The facility was built over 30 years ago but remains attractive and timeless, in my opinion. Of WDW's monorail hotels, this one is my personal choice and a good value in its class.
