pleasure
island
Disney's
nightlife complex is situated on an island next to Downtown
Disney. There is a charge of around $20 to get on the island
after which there are no cover charges. The island contains
5 dance clubs, and 3 live music venues to explore along with
restaurants and shops. The atmosphere of Pleasure Island changes
as the evening progresses. Early on there are many children
on the island and in the clubs. As it gets late the island
turns more into an adult dominated place with a livelier and
more tipsy crowd. After 7pm anyone under 18 must be supervised
by an adult.
Exploring
all the clubs is possible in an evening with the live music
having plentiful short performances. However, to really get
a feel of a club you should budget more time. In the end,
if you are enjoying yourself in a club then hang out; the
island is not a race to see everything.
universal
citywalk
The
Universal CityWalk area is open to the public, unlike Pleasure
Island. Therefore only the clubs have cover charges. You can
buy individual admission or a pass for all the clubs for under
$10. CityWalk has more dining options than Pleasure Island
and more live music venues (6). There are a similar number
of dance clubs in both areas.
If
you arrive early you can also get in CityWalk clubs for free
as charges do not come into effect until 9pm. Therefore if
you find a club you want to stay in before 9pm you will not
have to pay any cover.
The CityWalk atmosphere is more adult than Pleasure Island,
feeling more like a normal city club scene. This makes it
less touristy than Pleasure Island with plenty of locals making
up the crowds. If you want to hang out with a late teen early
twentysomething crowd you are more likely to find them here
than at Pleasure Island.
